Emedinews: Make Sure: A patient with Chikungunya had persistent joint pain.

Situation: A patient with Chikungunya had persistent joint pain.
Reaction: Oh my God! Why was Hydroxychloroquine not given?
Lesson: Make sure that all patients with post Chikungunya arthritis are treated with Hydroxychloroquine to reduce chances of death.

Emedinews:Inspiration: Nothing is too big for God

Two men went fishing. One man was an experienced fisherman, the other wasn't. Every time the experienced fisherman caught a big fish, he put it in his ice chest to keep it fresh. Whenever the inexperienced fisherman caught a big fish, he threw it back.
The experienced fisherman watched this go on all day and finally got tired of seeing this man waste good fish. "Why do you keep throwing back all the big fish you catch?" he asked. The inexperienced fisherman replied, "I only have a small frying pan."
Sometimes, like that fisherman, we throw back the big plans, the big dreams, the big jobs and the big opportunities that God gives us. Our faith is too small. We laugh at that fisherman who didn't figure out that all he needed was a bigger frying pan; yet how ready are we to increase the size of our faith?
Whether it's a problem or a possibility, God will never give you anything bigger than you can handle. That means we can confidently walk into anything God brings our way.

Emedinews:Insights on Medicolegal issues: Contact with a poison leads to illness

The very old, very young or those in poor health suffer greater damage

When people come in contact with a poison they are said to be exposed to it. The effect of exposure depends partly on how long the contact lasts and how much poison gets into the body and partly on how much poison the body can get rid of during this time. Exposure may happen only once or many times.

  • Acute exposure is a single contact that lasts for seconds, minutes or hours, or several exposures over about a day or less.
  • Chronic exposure is contact that lasts for many days, months or years. It may be continuous or broken by periods when there is no contact. Exposure that happens only at work, for example, is not continuous. Chronic exposure to small amounts of poison may not cause any signs or symptoms of poisoning at first. It may be many days or months before there is enough chemical inside the body to cause poisoning. For example, a person may use pesticide every day. Each day the person is exposed to only a small amount of pesticide, but the amount of pesticide in the body gradually builds up, until eventually, after many days, it adds up to a poisonous dose. Only then does the person begin to feel unwell.

Emedinews:Makesure:A patient with angina and abnormal endothelial functions was put on atenolol.

Situation: A patient with angina and abnormal endothelial functions was put on atenolol.
Reaction: Oh my God! Why you did not consider nebivolol?
Lesson: Make sure that nebivolol is used as the beta-blocker of choice in patients with proven endothelial dysfunction (Kardiologiia 2004;44(2):15–18).

Emedinews:Inspiration: The Disaster of Negative Thinking

The greatest scientists in the world are just beginning to scratch the surface when it comes to understanding what our minds are really capable of. The mind is so unbelievably powerful in ways we could never imagine. You and I don't need to understand exactly how it works, we just need to take care of our minds and let the magic happen.
Our subconscious mind takes orders from our conscious mind. The subconscious mind doesn't ask questions, it doesn't differentiate between empowering thoughts and demoralizing thoughts. It just acts upon the thoughts that we think. All outcomes and experiences in our lives are a direct result of our dominant mental thoughts. What we think, we become because our subconscious minds translate into reality our thought impulses.
When we ask ourselves a demoralizing question like "Why does this always happen to me?" our subconscious minds go to work whether we realize it or not. How do you think it responds to a demoralizing question like that? You are brilliant; it answers it with a bunch of demoralizing answers. It's just like the computer you are reading. A computer's output is based on its input. When a computer hacker tries to commit a cyber crime or steal someone's identity, the computer doesn't say it can't do that because that's illegal. It just performs what its user instructed it to do whether it's legal or illegal.
Our subconscious minds act the same exact way a computer does. Its output is based on its input whether it's a positive input or a negative input. Its not rocket science, if you want to change your output, you must change its input. The quality of your life is going to depend on the quality of your thoughts. The more empowering questions you ask your subconscious mind, the more empowered you will be. You must understand that the dominate thoughts of your mind will eventually manifest into the real world.
Buddha said, "We are shaped by our thoughts. We become what we think."
All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world. The next time you want to let a negative thought or a demoralizing question enter your precious mind, be careful what you ask for because you are eventually going to get it.
Use incredible thoughts to manifest an incredible life. Your life will follow your thoughts. If you think it and believe it, your subconscious mind will make you achieve it. Take your passion and make it happen

Emedinews:Insights on Medicolegal issues: What is Othello Syndrome?

Othello syndrome or morbid jealousy is a psychotic disorder where the affected person has delusions of infidelity of a spouse or partner. Recurrent accusations of infidelity are a characteristic feature of this disorder. The affected person starts seeking proof that such activities are occurring and searches for evidence, repeatedly interrogates the partner, tests his partner’s fidelity. Sometimes, stalking may also be a feature. The partner may succumb to pressure and falsely confess that she has indeed been unfaithful. This becomes a trigger point and the same confession result in violent murderous attack and jealous homicide. It may be associated with alcoholism, paranoid schizophrenia.

Emedinews:Makesure:A diabetic hypertensive was denied a beta-blocker because of traditional teaching.

Situation: A diabetic hypertensive was denied a beta-blocker because of traditional teaching.
Reaction: Oh my God! You should have used nebivolol.
Lesson: Make sure that diabetics are not denied beta–blockers when indicated. Nebivolol has no effect on glucose metabolism unlike atenolol (Source: Am J Hypertens 2005;18 (12, pt. 2):169S–176S).
