In British India ,
even after establishment of two English medical schools, the noted British John
Forbes Royale wrote a very famous essay on "Antiquity of Hindu
Medicine" in 1837 demonstrating the deep British interest/faith and
undisputed acceptance of efficacy in Indian pharmacopoeia. But it did not
survive long and an English pharmacopoeia in the name of Bengal Pharmacopoeia
1844 came into force in British India .
European doctors and English medicine started dominating over Indian herbs and
medicines.
