Dissociative identity occurs due to
chronic mental trauma or stress. The affected person fails to integrate the
various aspects of his personality. As a result, he has a different
self–identity at different time, place and situation, which he again forgets in
another place or time or situation where he presents with another identity. In
the course of such shifting of personality, there are concurrent vague
complaints of disease or trauma due to assault.
